I got my start in IT in 2001 on the help desk at Vail Resorts. Over the next six years I worked my way up from PC tech to network administrator to backup administrator, which is a great way to learn that every system eventually breaks and someone has to know how to bring it back.
Since then I've worked on both sides of the table. I've worked abroad as a Cisco network contractor, spent time with Cerium in Spokane, Washington, and worked two stretches at Dataedge Solutions, a value-added reseller in the Kansas City area. I'm a senior engineer there today, working mostly as a sales engineer across storage, virtualization, networking, and the rest of the data center. Most of my job is listening to what a business needs and translating the technology into plain language.
Then, after more than 25 years away from the classroom, I went back to school. In fall 2025 I enrolled in Grand Rapids Community College's AI certificate program. (My last semester at GRCC was in 1999.) Around the same time, a NetworkChuck video about using Claude Code for project management instead of coding sent me down a rabbit hole. I started using Claude to organize my work and my coursework, and it gave me a kind of focus and direction I hadn't had in a while.
Why small businesses
For two decades I've watched larger companies buy software and infrastructure that small businesses simply couldn't afford. Small teams end up behind on automation and IT, and it isn't for lack of smarts. It's budget and headcount.
Tools like Claude change that math. A five-person shop can now do things that used to take an enterprise IT department. My goal is to help owners and their teams see what's possible, try it on their own real work, and stay in charge of every decision.
Enterprise-grade help, small-business budget.

Why "Zorrillo"?
Zorrillo is Spanish for skunk. The name is a nod to the old "skunkworks" idea: a small team quietly building something new off to the side. That's exactly what this is, and it's why our mascot is a circuit-patterned skunk.
Need the infrastructure too?
Zorrillo Works, LLC is my own business, based in Byron Center, Michigan, and Dataedge Solutions supports it. When a Zorrillo Works client needs infrastructure behind their AI plans, like servers, storage, networking, or backup, I can bring in Dataedge to provide it.
